GUIDED TRUST

The world did not believe in Jesus when He was here.  Jesus had to die, rise from the grave, and then go to His Father in Heaven so that we would learn to trust Him in faith.  Jesus ascension to Heaven showed us that He alone is worthy of His throne at the right hand of God.    He did not leave us alone.  Jesus said ” In my Father’s house are many rooms. If I go to prepare a place for you,  I will come back and take you to be with me,  that you also may be where I am.”   I will ask the Father and He will give you another helper to be with you forever. The Father will send the Holy Spirit in my name.  The Holy Spirit will teach you many things and bring remembrance of all that I said to you.

The disciples waited 10 days and gathered for the Feast of Harvest.  Men from every nation traveled to Jerusalem on the day we now celebrate as Pentecost.   It was festival of the beginning of the first wheat harvest.   It was at that moment of Pentecost, the promised Holy Spirit poured upon them.  The mighty wind filled the whole house where the disciples sat.  They recognized  Jesus’ promised gift.    Through this baptism of the Holy Spirit, the disciples became more knowing and had a greater understanding of the mysteries of the Gospel.   They were more qualified to preach to people of all nations and languages.   By the Holy Spirit, they spoke in tongues. The men from every nation heard in their own language, the disciples’ teaching. Because of his mercy and grace, Peter was chosen to address the crowds at Pentecost.   Peter proclaims the Gospel to the tens of thousands of people drawing them to faith in Jesus.  Jesus is the Messiah.   Pentecost was not just a day marking the beginning of the wheat harvest.  It now also marked in history, the moment the spirit of God burst forth and the day the church was born.

Pentecost is a translation from a Greek word meaning fifty.   It is always celebrated 7 weeks, about 50 days after Easter, the day of the resurrection of Jesus.  It dates back to the first century as a Christian holiday.   Pentecost is the opportunity for all Christians to honor the role of the Holy Spirit in their lives and celebrate the birth of the church.  The Holy Spirit is at work, glorifying Jesus whenever and wherever the Gospel is proclaimed.  The Helper continues to convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment. We pray the Holy Spirit guide our lives and our witness glorifies Jesus.
