LHM – June 2020 Message

It’s Growing Season

Forty days after His resurrection, Jesus ascended to sit at the right had of the Father.  Ten days later, the apostles were celebrating the Spring harvest festival, “Shavuot.”  There came from Heaven, a loud noise like a violent rushing wind.  The Bible says, “The noise filled the whole house where Jesus’ followers were gathered.  There appeared on the heads of every person, a little red tongue of fire.  They spoke many languages, but by another miracle, could listen and understand each other.”  The Holy Spirit sent by God; Pentecost, the 50th day of Easter.  The church appointed color Red, of the fire, communicates strength and power of the Holy Spirit.  God’s people receiving wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, piety, knowledge, and fear of the Lord.  We celebrate God’s holy will and word.

The days following Pentecost Sunday focus on Jesus’ life and ministry.  The season makes up most of the latter half of the church year.  It celebrates Jesus’ teachings and how we continue to live into them today.  This ‘Season of the Green Meadow’ reflecting how He touched people’s lives and shared God’s use of grace.  The church is usually decorated in Green, symbolizing life and hope.  As plants sprout and bring out new buds and leaves in the summer warmth, so should we use this time to grow in our faith and discipleship in our lives.
