COMING SOON
The first Sunday of Advent will be commemorated on Sunday Nov. 30, 2025, and marks the beginning of the new church year. Advent translates to ”coming” and this first Sunday establishes the theme of the season, the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Advent is a season of repentance, waiting, and looking forward full of hope. The church altar is adorned in purple or blue. Our Christian faith rests on the hope that Christ, who in history, came to accomplish our salvation. ”The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost ” (Luke 19:10)
The book of Acts is a celebration of God’s Advent heart, to find and redeem the lost. It’s a narrative of Jesus’ ongoing advent to more and more people of the world. Acts is the story of how the early church understood these words, ” Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” (Matt. 21:9). The season of Advent is a reminder of our moving, our coming and our advent into the lives and peoples of those around us.
As we begin this Advent season, take a few minutes to reflect how we are coming into it. Do we feel excited and hopeful as the days unfold around us? Are we experiencing anxiety to pressures and expectations being laid on us? Maybe we have some deep loneliness, a physical issue or an unsolved relationship conflict? Take a moment to lay your hopes and heartaches in the hands of Jesus.
God in His incomparable love has made a way for us through the wilderness. He did this by giving us His Son, our light in the darkness. We embrace the Advent and Christmas seasons and the wonder of Jesus. At Jesus’ birth, God the Father did a new and everlasting thing in our lives. He gave us His one and only Son for our redemption. In divine humility, Jesus joined us as a human being. Born of woman and bearing the sins of the world, Jesus comes to us as our Protector, our Deliverer, and our Savior.
