LIVING THANKFULLY
These last few weeks of the year, we take time to remember and give thanks for the many blessings we have received over the last year. We are thankful for family and friends, house and home, income and possessions, health and happiness. As we watch another year speed by, it’s a great time to consider how we will live out the remaining weeks of the year. These last weeks are typically a scattershot, hustle bustle of activities and scrambling on a high-speed race toward Christmas.
We are in the spirit of Thanksgiving. It’s a good time to thank God for the gift of life and what we make of it. God has gifted us and we trust in Him. Love God and encourage others to do the same. All people can be grateful for food, drink, clothing, house, land, good weather and good health. Butas Christians, what sets our Thanksgiving apart and makes it different is the gospel of Jesus Christ and His forgiveness and promise of eternal life. Jesus wants us to live full and expansive lives He wants us to follow Him and encourage others. Let us be doubly thankful for the grace of God in our lives this Thanksgiving as we approach the season of Advent.
Advent begins the first Sunday, December 3, 2023 and is the season of preparation and anticipation leading up to Christmas. Advent continues through the fourth Sunday, December 24, 2023. As the Advent season approaches, this is the time to grow in our faith Advent is from a Latin word that means coming. Jesus calls us to come; he wants us to follow him. But what does it mean to follow Jesus? Following Jesus is a Holy Spirit empowered process. We repent and admit our sins to God. Jesus wants us to go beyond our skills and resources. He will lead us to lives that are pleasing to God and that will make a better world. May we beused of the Holy Spirit to direct our hearts and mature as followers of Jesus.
