LHM – January 2026 Message

ALL NATIONS BOW BEFORE HIM

The Advent season is rich with feelings of longing and prayerful bidding for a newness . The Advent hymn ” O Come, O Come Emmanuel” is sung almost daily the week before Christmas.  Advent is the season of hope, peace and love as we prepare for the coming of Christ. By the 6th century, most churches had adopted December 25 to celebrate Jesus’ birth.  But the people thought the manifestation of God was too big an event  for only one day.   So many churches extended the celebration to 12 Days of Christmas.  As you read this, you must be nearing halfway through your holiday shopping and down to, 12 Drummers drumming, 11 Pipers piping,  10 Lords a leaping,  9 Ladies dancing, 8 Maids a milking, and the rest. Twelve Days of Christmas,  Dec. 25,2025 to Jan, 5,2026.  The 13th day of Christmas, Jan. 6,2026 begins the church season, Epiphany. It is the celebration of the 3 Wise Men and Jesus meets the world. Jesus was Jewish,  Mary and Joseph, too   The Priests were Jewish, so were the shepherds. The Three Wise Men were Gentiles and scholars from the East.  They knew the Messiah was coming. They knew of the old testament prophecy,  ”And the Gentiles shall come to the light” (Isaiah 60:3). The Magi needed this hope.  Like us.they endured personal struggles and felt helpless facing the world’s turmoil.  With God’s guidance, they were on the first Star Trek.

Most of us are Gentiles like the Wise Men, and we, too, are full of hope and expectations.  We search intently for a new life to happen and a new day to dawn.  We have faith in God’s promises.  We are looking for the promises to be fulfilled. We aren’t waiting for the Christ to come and save us, for Jesus already accomplished our salvation by His death on the cross.  What we’re waiting for is for Jesus Christ to return, to create a new heaven and a new earth,  and to bring us into the Father’s presence.  where there will be no more sin or sorrow.  The glory of Jesus’ resurrection to share everlasting life and joy with those who trust in Him.

The season of Epiphany is all about the light of the world, Jesus, being made known to all people.  During the season of Epiphany, the readings of the church focus on how God revealed His salvation to us through Jesus. A new day is dawning, but not just because we want it.  For God Himself wants it accomplished for you, for me and for all.
