BORN TO YOU…….A SAVIOR
Advent is the church season, Sunday Nov.30 – Dec.24., of. waiting and preparation for the celebration of Jesus’ birth. God, in His great love and mercy, has made a way for us through the wilderness. We embrace the Christmas joy and wonder of Jesus. At Christ’s birth, God the father of love so freely given, did a new and everlasting act in our lives. He gave us His one and only Son for our redemption. In divine humility, Jesus, our light in the darkness, joined us as a human being. Born of woman, Jesus comes to us as our Protector, our Deliverer, our Savior.
Often God’s word comes through the unexpected. Isaiah knew and foretold of a future messenger to prepare the way. A man from the wilderness dressed in camel’s hair and leather, eating locusts and wild honey, .John the Baptist is one of the most enigmatic figures of the Gospel and Advent. John was the messenger. He was the last of the Old Testament prophets. ”Pay no attention to me, I am not the Christ. but I have been sent before Him”. John was tragically executed and he left many followers. John’s job was to prepare for the Christ’s coming and to make straight the path. The Kingdom of the Lord was near. John preached a message of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, urging people to prepare for the coming of the Lord, John would lead many sinners to faith and a life in Jesus. John’s disciples were taught, ” He baptized with water but Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit”. Thank God, the disciples knew the one for whom John came. John’s disciples turned to Jesus.
The Advent voice calls out. It invites us to stop, pay attention and wake up to what God is doing around us. We live in a world of distractions, where messages are often designed to divert our attention. Advent is a time to quiet those distractions and listen closely for the pure voice of God, the voice crying in the wilderness. ” Prepare the way of the Lord.” Advent means ”coming” and the message is that Jesus is coming from Heaven to us in His words and promises. Receiving Him through faith and repentance is central to the Advent theme. Our God is with us now and forever, we move into the hopeful growing of the year ahead.
