LHM – December 2022 Message

A SON IS GIVEN

It’s getting closer. It’s not a secret, the countdown to Christmas is in full swing. Christmas lights glisten around our neighborhoods.  Christmas greetings are in the mail and some kitchens are filled with the sweet smell of Christmas cookies.   Many traditions prepare for the holidays; Christmas caroling and hanging of the greens Every parent love to watch their children’s faces as they decorate their tree.

It is a new church year.  Advent is the season of preparation, leads to Christmas and continues12 days to Epiphany.    Advent candles shine brightly, as Jesus came as light into our dark world.

The Advent wreath also decorates the church symbolizing newness and eternal life through Jesus. We prepare our hearts for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  Jesus came into this world as both God and man so that our sins may be forgiven.  Advent is a time for families of faith to remember Jesus through prayers, reflection, special music and good deeds.  Maybe call an old friend, visit a neighbor, help the needy or a special prayer for a friend far away, Step away from the holiday parties and frenzied shopping.  Advent is when we ready to celebrate one of the holiest events in the Christian faith, the birth of the Messiah.     It is the time to consider Jesus’ return, the second coming.  The most important preparation for the ”Arrival of our Lord” is not accomplished by our efforts.   Fill our hearts and our lives with the Holy   Spirit, God’s presence among us.  Jesus will return to this world as King.  A new world will mean the beginning of our new lives.   Those will be scary days, but we can look forward with peace in our hearts because of our faith in Jesus Christ.  God’s gift for the holidays is a fully restored eternal life.   In Him, we have new real hope.    This hope will hold you and your family through the days ahead. Share this hope, especially this season.
