THE SEASON OF THE SPIRIT
Ordinary Time is not called ‘ordinary’ because it is common but simply because the church weeks are in order. The weeks of Ordinary Time are not associated to a specific season and so are numbered It is a time for growth and fruitfulness in our Christian lives. It is the season of the Spirit. It is a season to celebrate and give thanks for the beauty of the gifts of nature. It is a time for thoughtful and reverend stewardship.
It is a time to recall the history of God’s people and the ways of God’s prophetic spirit.
It is the season when Jesus’ promise that the Holy Spirit will teach everything and bethe reminder of all Jesus has said.
We live now in the weeks after Pentecost with the wind of the Holy Spirit in our sails.
This season of Ordinary Time extends into November. Our task for the weeks ahead is to look at what Jesus so sternly taught His disciples. We need to see what in these teachings we can learn and use to carry out the work we need to do.
How can we keep focused on God? Where do we find Him when we are on vacation?
How, as Christians, do we respond to issues in our community? Do you have eyes that will see and ears that will hear? This is a season for learning about your faith. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we follow Jesus in the ways of peace and loving service.
