LHM – April 2025 Message

What impact does Easter have on your life?  Is it a once a year festive celebration with pretty flowers, cute bunnies, sweet candies. brightly colored Spring clothing?  Or is it eye opening, motivating, life changing, all year long reality?

The church year slows down during Holy Week.  We give special attention to all that Jesus taught and did in those days.  Significant portions of Luke’s Gospel, Matthew, John and Peter are devoted to Holy Week.  The liturgy of the Church   captures events in real time.

Jesus rides into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.    A few days later, Judas agrees to betray Jesus. on Spy Wednesday. Jesus ”commands’‘ the disciples on Maundy Thursday to ”Love one another as I have loved you”  at the Last Supper.. Jesus is crucified and dies on the cross on what has become Good Friday.   His resurrection and His sacrifice for the salvation of all Christian humanity’s sins offers the possibilities of forgiveness and eternal life. Saturday, His tomb is sealed.

Sunday Easter dawn, Jesus is raised and the angels rolled away the tomb’s stone.  The angels bring to mind to Mary and Mary Magdalene ”and on the third day be raised”.  Jesus visits Mary, Mary Magdalene and later with disciples.  With His breath Jesus gives them the Holy Spirit and the gift of absolution. They were suddenly fearless and confident in their faithThese Disciples who just days before sat huddled together in fear were now proudly able to proclaim ”He is risen indeed”. Forty days after Easter Jesus ascended to Heaven. We know the story of Easter and may even accept Jesus’ resurrection as historical fact.  But do we always believe that

He is alive today in our lives. Jesus makes a difference.  He reveals himself to us.   He opens the Old Testament Scriptures   .about our God’s mission.  The resurrection of Jesus makes life worth living because when God is at work for you, there is nothing to fear.
