SEASON OF HOPE
For those that recognize Easter as the holiest day of the year, the refreshing airs of springtime usher us into a season of great hope and thanksgiving. The Easter message that Jesus came to set us free and give us new life does not change. Last week we followed Christ’s footsteps from Palm Sunday to Easter. We started in the Hosanna procession with the waving palms and cheering and songs. We left the crowd and Thursday joined the 12 disciples at the Last Supper. Friday we mourned Christ’s crucifixion and the next day hid in fear. Finally, Sunday, we reached Resurrection Day – the day praising Jesus Christ as King and His eternal victory over death.
But this week, many of us struggle with the fear, sorrow and pain in the world. Whatever the problem is, there are doubters. How can they trust Jesus when they are not sure who He is? But even when the church is messed up, Jesus still loves us. He doesn’t wait for us to be perfect. Jesus does not approve disbelief and doubt but He understands we are weak, sinful humans. We are broken, but Jesus delights in us. We are the people Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to. His power will flow through us as children of God. The disciples doubted and were fearful,. Jesus told them ”Let your hearts not be troubled. Believe in God. believe also in me”
Day by day, disbelief is a struggle. It is usually easy to decide between the natural and predictable things we see and experience. In the days ahead we will face many challenges: a tough boss, a family disagreement or a health issue that are difficult to understand or trust our beliefs. But the word of the risen Lord can make all the difference in our daily lives with happiness and hope. ”We walk by faith, and not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7) A blessed Easter, today and tomorrow.
